4 Things to Consider to Make Your Home Children Friendly
When you have kids at home, you can’t help but wonder almost all the time about what they are doing and if they are safe, especially if you are not looking after them. You cannot take chances with kids’ safety because they are more interested in having fun than taking precautions. If anything, it is you who will take care of damages and injuries when they mess up.
One of the items you can consider is the sofas. Kids enjoy playing on couches while in the living room and they are terrible at maintaining them clean. They pour drinks and food items on them, sit on them with dirty clothes, and step on them with dirty feet and shoes. It doesn’t matter how many times you tell them it is wrong, they’ll do it anyway. To reduce your stress and make them comfortable at the same time, buy leather sofas of excellent quality that are strong and easy to clean. Alternatively, select slip covered sofas whose material is stain resistant for easy cleaning.
Next, take extra caution with your coffee tables and cupboards. It is not a great idea to have sharp edged furniture in your home, mainly when you have tiny ones who are teaching themselves to walk. The sharp edges of furniture can cause serious injuries if someone hits themselves against them, and they are quite painful. Instead, choose round and oval shaped tables and you can have them cushioned on top to make them blunt, and rounded edges for your cupboards. This reduces their risk of injury when children play roughly around them. Also, avoid buying cupboards because they can easily fall on them, but if you must, make them as heavy as possible and place in rooms where your kids do not visit a lot.
The type of floor you select is also essential. The right kind of floor to have when you have kids around is one which is not slippery, hard to clean, or cold. Hardwood floors are easy to clean, but very slippery especially when one has socks on. Concrete floors can be cleaned easily too, but they get very cold sometimes. Try carpet tiles because they are easy to clean, slip resistant, and warm on the feet.
Your walls are a stress factor when you have kids at the crayons stage. To maintain your sanity, coat your walls with a type of paint that is easy to clean in the rooms where they visit the most or install chalkboards on the walls to make everybody happy. Again, no matter how many times you tell them not to do things that you do not want them to, they will repeat them. Be smart!
